Insulin is well known as one of, if not the, strongest anabolic hormones in your body because one primary function of insulin is to increase protein synthesis, stop protein breakdown and transport glucose, proteins and nutrients to the muscles. In fact, insulin is well known because of the extreme glycogen pump it causes along with hyper-loading of nutrients, promoting faster recovery and growth. As well, insulin has a big role in nutrient-partitioning, driving energy from food into the process of muscle growth as opposed to the process of building fat. So the key here is to promote this powerful hormone naturally without risking the typical negative side effects associated with drug use.
Promoting insulin sensitivity is important because a person who is "insulin resistant" has a difficult time processing carbohydrates, the fact is there body has to release quite a bit of insulin to force glucose into the cells. The key here in regards to the positive effects of insulin is to promote insulin sensitivity so the body doesn't have work as hard. Insulin sensitivity has a lot to do with your genetics and the associated individual differences. Some key ways to increase insulin sensitivity is by training – both with weights and cardio - and by diet manipulation. Regarding diet, a moderate carb diet that includes fiber, Omega-3 fatty acids, fish oil and fiber can have a big effect on insulin sensitivity. In contrast, the widely used low-carb, high-fat diets can actually reduce insulin sensitivity – therefore these types of diets should have, at most, a limited role in your nutrition program. Additionally, supplementation can play a large role in promoting insulin sensitivity. In fact, there are several currently available supplements that promote insulin receptor sensitivity and work to help push glucose into the muscle cells. The amount of insulin in the blood impacts the Glut-4 receptor located inside the muscle cell, this receptor opens if there is enough insulin available. I-LOAD™ is different from other insulin supplements because I-LOAD™ is able to cause Glut-4 to open up and pull glucose into the muscle. This helps keep insulin sensitivity at its maximum.
Here is the I-LOAD ingredient profile, contained in one 450mg capsule (serving size 1-2 per day):
Chromium is an important trace mineral found in skin, fat, muscle, brain and the adrenal glands – we have about 6mg in our bodies. Insulin transports sugar to the cells, chromium is part of this process. Chromium is able to "bridge" insulin to cell membranes, increasing the number of active insulin receptors, leading to greater insulin sensitivity and effectiveness. Chromium absorption through the small intestine is poor, much of it gets excreted in the urine, this makes choosing the right type of chromium supplementation vitally important. There are several types of chromium available, of these, “chromium polynicotinate" has the best adsorption rate. Chromium polynicotinate binds chromium with niacin, a B-vitamin, which helps the body absorb minerals.
Gymnema Sylvestre is a popular herb that’s been used in India for centuries. Research done over the last several years has indicated that Gymnema can help maintain normal, healthy blood sugar levels. One research study conducted at King's College in London, England concluded that Gymnema acts by supporting cell permeability, which in turn decreases insulin resistance. Research has indicated that Gymnema lowers the absorption of glucose from the intestine, reducing the amount of glucose that could potentially be stored as fat.
The leaves from the Gymnema Sylvestre herb have two important mechanisms of action. They can help control blood glucose levels after meals. Additionally, they promote the secretion of insulin. This dual approach indicates that Gymnema Sylvestre can have an important role in hyper-loading glucose into the muscles.
Momordica 10:1 Extract
Momordica charantia, commonly known as bitter melon, is a fruit that grows on the Momordica charantia plant. Momordica grows in tropical climates and has been used as a traditional medicine for thousands of years.
The leaves and vines of the Momordica charantia plant are frequently used in traditional medicine, but the fruit is used most often, due to its effectiveness and safety. Bitter melon contains several active ingredients, one, in particular, is charantin, which is an important agent that can promote healthy, normal blood sugar levels.
In a 2008 study published in the prestigious journal Chemistry & Biology, Dr. Mon-Jia Tan and a team of researchers from the Chinese Academy of Sciences in China conducted a study where they were able to isolate agents from bitter melon known as cucurbitane triterpenoids and conducted tests on their effects on sugar and fat metabolism in cells as well as in mice. The tests on muscle and fat cells indicated that the cucurbitanes stimulated the GLUT4 glucose receptor to move closer to the cell surface, this means increased glucose metabolism. In the tests conducted on mice, they discovered that two of the cucurbitanes promoted both glucose tolerance and fat burning, and one worked well in promoting glucose tolerance in animals ingesting a diet high in fat.
Banaba leaf, also known as Lagerstroemia, is a flowering tree found in the Philippines and India, where it has been used for centuries as a treatment for digestive problems, kidney inflammation, and diabetes. Banaba leaves contain a compound called corosolic acid, which has been identified as one of the main agents for banaba's glucose-lowering effect. According to a study in the April 2008 issue of "Diabetes Research and Clinical Practice," corosolic acid helps the body break down sugars and carbohydrates and send them out to the body as energy through a process known as glycolysis.
- Increased amino acid uptake, glycogen storage and nutrient hyper-loading in the muscles
- Increased insulin receptor sensitivity
- Enhanced protein synthesis
How do I use I-LOAD?
To feel the effects of a full-on glycogen pump, take (1-2) capsules with your pre-workout meal or shake. The meal or shake must contain at least 40-50 grams of carbohydrates per capsule. For increased amino acid & glucose uptake and speed of recovery, take (1-2) capsules immediately post-workout with at least 40-50 grams of carbohydrates per capsules. Advanced users may take (1) additional capsule per day with a carbohydrate-rich meal. Do not exceed 6 capsules per day unless you are facilitating pre-contest carb loading.
