As good as whey protein is, it’s a fast-digesting protein, typically it’s digested and gone in just a few hours, which means it may not be the best choice for every situation. Take, for example, when you go to sleep. Usually, you’ll sleep 6-9 hours – that’s a catabolic “fast” when you will not have any protein working to promote recovery and growth. Even taking in some whey protein right before bed only covers a few hours – what about the rest of the time you’re asleep? If that’s not enough, what about a long day at school or work, when you may not have access to a protein shake or meal – what do you do then? Again, even a whey shake only works for a few hours.

The answer is Micellar Casein protein – but not just any Casein - after an extended period of research, Kaged Muscle is proud to bring you the next generation of Micellar Casein protein supplements – Casein!

This is a superior cold-processed Micellar Casein Protein Isolate that is precisely manufactured using a state of the art micro-filtration process. This exclusive filtration process actually preserves the foundational integrity of the casein protein which ensures that every batch maintains its naturally occurring micellar structure.

Casein proteins are a slow-digesting protein because they are pH-sensitive, this means that they tend to thicken in the stomach’s naturally acidic environment, forming a gel-like substance that slows down its digestion rate, thereby causing an extended-release effect that will last considerably longer than whey proteins. This extended-release effect makes casein protein the perfect choice for nighttime use or for use during the day if you have to go more than a few hours without protein. Casein by Kaged Muscle is the kind of anti-catabolic protein you need in your arsenal if you are really serious about muscle growth.

Kris Gethin’s KAGED MUSCLE R&D team created the highest quality Micellar Casein protein possible – and took it even farther by creating absolutely delicious milkshake-like flavors for both the vanilla and chocolate choices – which, by the way, are naturally colored and flavored. These rich, thick, milkshake-like flavors are like no other protein you have ever tried! We spent over 6 months just developing the flavors alone – because Kris Gethin demands only the best for Kaged Muscle users – and that meant it had to be natural! After all, why can’t you get the results you want, maintain your health, and enjoy a great tasting shake all at the same time!

Why use Kaged Muscle Casein over other casein protein supplements? The answer is easy – we only use ingredients that meet strict MICROPURE™ standards. This means they are the third-party tested for both purity and potency. While it’s true we pay a premium price, our manufacturers have agreed to commit to strict ethical and environmental standards, which means that every single one of our ingredients undergoes strict manufacturing methods.

In fact, our manufacturing methods are so superior, MICROPURE™ Micellar Casein Isolate is the first of a new breed of dairy ingredients which combine premium nutrition with improved functionality. To achieve this, we begin the process of creating our ULTRA-Premium Slow-Release Casein protein with our sources of clean, raw milk. We then gently process the milk by using a cutting edge low-temperature ceramic micro-filtration method – this ensures the natural micellar structure of the milk is preserved
In fact, every batch of Kaged Muscle Casein comes with our exclusive Micropure™ Quality Guarantee Seal – if it’s on the label, it’s guaranteed to be in the bottle! We don’t stop there - our exclusive BSCG Certified Drug Free® program ensures consumer protection against 483 drugs, that’s more than any other program currently available! This extensive list includes 272 drugs that are on the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Prohibited List, plus an additional 211 illicit, prescription, and OTC drugs that are not banned in sport - no other dietary supplement certification program provides this kind of protection! If that’s not enough, Kaged Muscle features 100% transparent labeling – you know exactly what you’re going to get when you buy the product!

Buyer Beware! Most companies don’t come close to this level of quality and transparency, in fact, there are quite a few inferior, lower-cost manufacturing methods for casein protein that numerous leading brands use – they do this to increase the bottom-line, even if that means short-changing your results. You see, cheaply made ingredients save them money.

How is Casein different from those other casein proteins? Kaged Muscle uses ONLY the filtration method that preserves the structural integrity of the protein, unlike other processing methods that many other companies use. If you use heat or acid to separate casein out of the milk, the micelle’s structures are altered, which means reduced biological activity and impaired digestibility.

What about the casein sources used by those other companies - how is Micellar Casein different from Calcium or Sodium Caseinate, you may ask?

Calcium Caseinate is a casein protein that uses an acid method of separation from skimmed milk – what this means is that at the end of the process, the protein is no longer in its naturally-occurring Micellar state; the protein has been denatured.
Once the casein has been soaked by acid, it is then heated again, which causes the protein to further degrade into small components that clump together. These clumps are then dewatered by a process known as high-sheer centrifuging. By this time, the casein has undergone harsh treatment with both heat and acid, which for all intents destroys the protein’s integrity and leaves you paying for an inferior protein product.

You see, raw milk casein is made from a complex group of protein clusters referred to as micelles, these clusters are bound with calcium, phosphate, and citrate ions, which has a neutral pH of 6.6, about the same as the pH level of the human body. In fact, native Micellar Casein complements the acid-base balance of your body and therefore does not create an acidic effect, unlike the casein protein made by many of the top brands, which are acidifying and must be chemically alkalized in order to be drinkable.

So, after all that information, how can you tell which type of casein you are ingesting? If you look at the nutrition panel of the casein you are using, the first ingredient that’s listed should be Micellar Casein. If you don’t see Micellar Casein, then it’s time for a better protein.

FAQ

Q.What is the best protein source, Whey or Micellar Casein?

A. Protein powders and supplements in general are simply tools that help you reach your fitness goals. For the best result, you need the RIGHT tools at the RIGHT times! Both types of protein are premium quality proteins, so the question becomes, which protein should I be using at what times?
It’s about the rate of digestion. Therefore, use a good whey protein, like RE-KAGED, post-workout, and first thing in the morning, and then use Casein before bed and at the start of a long day at work or school.

Q.Why isn’t there a digestive enzyme in Casein?

A. Whey protein, which has a very FAST rate of digestion, requires a digestive enzyme complex to help break it down quickly so it’s completely utilized, especially post workout….as with RE-KAGED. On the other hand, Casein has a very SLOW rate of digestion, about 5-7 hours, so there’s really no need to add a digestive enzyme complex to help break it down. If you see a digestive enzyme complex in the leading brands’ casein proteins, it’s to help deal with the higher lactose levels they contain because they are using a poor-quality protein source. Casein, on the other hand, contains a very low amount of lactose, less than 1 gram per serving, which makes it the right choice for those users that are lactose-sensitive.

Q. Why is there coconut oil in Casein?

A. Simple. Coconut oil is required to help slow the rate of digestion of Casein. This is non-GMO coconut oil that’s primarily MCT’s, which promote an extended-release source of healthy fats.
