Omega-3 is an essential fatty acid (EFA) that comes from both animal and plant sources such as Flax Oil, although fish oil is the most wildly used supplement version. Fatty acids serve many critical functions in the body and are essential for normal good health. Your body is unable to manufacture essential fatty acids, this means they must come from food or supplements. In the body, Alpha-linolenic acid converts to the longer chain fatty acids EPA and DHA, these promote prostaglandin formation among numerous other functions. A reason Fish Oil is preferred is that they contain the correct EPA/DHA ratio for maximum effectiveness.

FAQs
What fish are used in Omega-3 Fish Oil?
NOW uses mainly Sardines, Anchovies, and Mackerel.
Does your Fish Oil formula contain Vitamin A?
NOW uses the whole fish such as sardines, anchovies, and mackerels, instead of just fish liver oil. Omega-3 fish oils are subjected to purification processes to supply EPA and DHA. Typically Cod Liver Oil supplies vitamins A and D along with small amounts of EPA and DHA.
Are NOW Omega-3 Fish Oils contaminant tested?
Yes, it is. NOW uses independent laboratories to test Omega-3 Fish Oil products for contaminants as well as active ingredients. We are proud to say that our Omega-3 Fish Oils meet or exceed FDA safety standards as well as standards set by the state of California and the CRN (Council for Responsible Nutrition) Monograph.
Is NOW Omega-3 Fish Oil rated pharmaceutical grade?
There’s quite a bit of confusion surrounding pharmaceutical grade Omega 3 Fish Oil. In the US, there is no such thing as the official USP (United States Pharmacopeia) monograph that defines these supposed testing specifications. Companies that use this as a selling point are using this as hype by claiming their product meets a non-existent standard. NOW does not make such a claim as it simply does not exist. What does exist is a voluntary CRN (or, Council for Responsible Nutrition) monograph – this is used to define the specs needed to establish a standard for a pure Omega 3 EPA/DHA supplement. Our Omega 3 Enteric-coated Fish oil soft gels do meet these criteria.
What is the reason your Omega-3 Fish Oil is Molecularly Distilled?
We use Fish Oil that’s processed in Norway by means of high vacuum Molecular Distillation. This promotes the purity of EPA/DHA triglyceride Omega-3 Fish Oils and dramatically decreases impurities.
Ultra Omega-3 Natural Fish Oil Concentrate by NOW is produced under the strictest quality control standards. Enteric-coated, odor controlled soft gels are easier to digest and therefore the ideal choice for those who have a hard time digesting standard fish oil products. Omega-3 fatty acids have been shown to help reduce the risk of coronary heart disease. The FDA has evaluated the data and determined that there is scientific evidence to this claim but the evidence is not conclusive.
Ultra Omega-3 is free of potentially harmful amounts of contaminants such as mercury, heavy metals, PCB's, dioxins, and other contaminants.
