Supplement Spotlight: EAS Myoplex

EAS Myoplex 20 Packets

EAS Myoplex! Wow, is there a lot of history behind this product! There’s quite a story here, and it covers several products that were revolutionary when they first came out. In this edition of Supplement Spotlight, we’re going to look at the history of a brand as well as a product. Ready? Let’s get going!

Who Is EAS?

Back in the early ’90s, a guy named Bill Phillips helped create and market the original meal replacement powder. It was called Met-Rx. This product was revolutionary at the time and created a new category. In essence, it was a high-protein, nutrient-dense shake.

Part of the original marketing Phillips used was that this type of nutrient-dense shake was used with burn victims to help maintain muscle mass while they recovered.

There was an extensive marketing program that built interest in the benefits of the product. When Met-Rx first came out, it was in two containers, and you had to mix a serving of each together. That was cumbersome and messy, so it was quickly switched to the 20-packet boxes you may know and remember.

So, Where Do EAS And Myoplex Fit In?

Not long after Met-Rx hit the market, Phillips left and formed his own company: EAS. The company claim was that EAS stood for Experimental & Applied Sciences. However, one of the owners, Ed “Mr.Creatine” Byrd, suggested it stood for the initials of the owners. Nonetheless, the main claim to fame of EAS is creatine. Thanks in large part to Mr.Byrd, they were the first to introduce a creatine product called Phosphagen (regarding the Phosphagen System, a short-term energy system used by the body).

Along with the innovative Phosphagen, they also came out with Myoplex, the direct competitor to Met-Rx. Then, not long thereafter, Phillips, the CEO, sold his majority of the company. Ultimately, it ended up being owned by Abbott Labs, which ceased EAS operations in 2018.

Well, guess what? Bill is back with a brand new EAS company and the latest “original” version of Myoplex! (1)

Let’s Look At The Myoplex Ingredients

With both protein and carbs, Myoplex is more than a protein powder. Yet it’s not a weight gainer. It is a nutrient-dense high protein shake. There’s 42g of protein per serving. Also, there are 22g of complex carbohydrates and 4.5g of fat. Plus, Myoplex contains a full-spectrum vitamin and mineral blend. In all, there are 22 nutrients, most of them with 50% or higher of the suggested daily value.

We will break down the protein sources and a few of the key nutrients.

Protein Blend – This is 42g from a blend of whey concentrate, micellar casein, whey isolate, and whey hydrolysate. First, we don’t know how much of each is in this blend. Since whey concentrate is first, it’s the most abundant protein source. Micellar casein is next, it’s slower digesting than whey, so that means you’ll get the benefits of protein for a few hours longer. The other forms of whey are, of course, higher quality and a little faster digesting than whey concentrate.

B Complex Vitamins – There are eight B vitamins. They are Thiamin, Riboflavin, Niacin, Vitamin B6, Folate, Vitamin B12, Biotin, and Pantothenic Acid. As a complex, they help convert food into energy for the body and combat stress and anxiety.

Other vitamins include A, C, and E.

Zinc – This mineral is important for protein metabolism and testosterone production.

Magnesium – This mineral, among other functions, supports muscular contraction.

Other minerals include Calcium, Iron, Phosphorus, Iodine, Selenium, Copper, Manganese, Chromium, and Molybdenum.

As you can see, Myoplex supports muscle growth but it also supports overall health and well-being. By buying Myoplex, you won’t need protein powder or a multi-vitamin supplement.

How Do I Use It?

As per the directions, simply mix one packet with 8-10oz of cold water or the beverage of your choice. Originally, it was suggested to use 1-3 servings a day. This helps ensure good nutrition and helps you meet your protein needs for the day.

If you’re following a fat loss program, Myoplex can replace 1-2 meals. This helps you control calories and gives you a lot of nutrition for one 290-calorie packet.

If you’re trying to build mass, if you have 2 servings per day, that’s 84g of protein and a full 100% of most micronutrients. That 84g will go a long way towards meeting your daily protein needs.

What Can I Stack It With?

Here are a few stack ideas to use with Myoplex.
