5% Nutrirtion 5150 Pre-Workout Review

5% Nutrition 5150 is a high-stim pre-workout that includes a balanced pump/focus/endurance formula. It’s one of several pre-workouts from 5%, each one representing a different stim (caffeine) level, with Full As F*ck being a stim-free pump pre-workout. 5150 was the pre-workout Rich would use for his toughest training sessions. I have used it, and it’s one of my favorites. This review gives an in-depth look at 5150, discusses my experience with it, what others think, what I stacked it with, and what you can expect from it. Let’s get started!

PROS

  • Transparent Label
  • Well-Dosed, Effective Ingredients
  • Tastes Great

 CONS

  • May Be Too Much Caffeine For Some Users
  • 3g Beta Alanine Dosage May Cause Excessive Tingles and Itching Sensations For Some Users

What You Can Expect From 5% Nutrition 5150

First, what’s with that name, anyway? It refers to the mandatory psychiatric hold of those who are deemed dangerous to others or even themselves. My guess is that Rich felt this product was insane – and when it first came out, it was an insane dose of caffeine. 5150 has good, but not overwhelming dosages of citrulline and beta-alanine. That’s why I often stacked it with stim-free pump-based products. Good supporting products would be glycerol and citrulline.

How Much Caffeine?

5150 features 400 mg of caffeine from an 8-ingredient Blend. The result of this 8-ingredient combination is fast and slow absorbing caffeine for extended energy and no crash.

What About My Experience?

I found 5150 to be fantastic for energy and focus. I’m a high-stim guy, so I had no issues with the amount of caffeine. Every time I used it, I had great workouts. Even so, there are a couple of considerations.

First, I suggest drinking plenty of water. With that much caffeine, you need to stay hydrated. Second, I would at times stack it with a pump-based product. Full As F*ck makes sense, but I used a glycerol powder (6g per scoop) for insane endurance and massive pumps. If you do the same, drink lots of water with it.

How’s It Taste?

The flavor, in my case Pink Lemonade, was delicious, light, and refreshing. 5150 mixes up easily with no clumping.

What Do Users Say About 5% Nutrition 5150?

Most ratings taken from various sites (illpumpyouup.com, Amazon) rate this product 4 or 5 stars. For most people, 5150 provides a lot of energy and focus. A few users claim they didn’t feel anything. Most likely these are the high-stim users who have developed a tolerance to caffeine. It may be wise to cycle this product to avoid building a tolerance to the caffeine. Also, a few users feel they didn’t get a pump from this product. However, the negative reviews were in the minority.

Pre-Workouts Are One Of The Keys To a Great Training Session

5% Nutrition 5150 Review – Ingredient Highlights

L-Citrulline – 4,000mg

L-Citrulline is one of the most common and potent pump ingredients on the market. To give you good pumps, 5150 provides a 4-gram dose of 100% pure citrulline. (1)

Beta-Alanine – 3,000 mg

Beta-Alanine is a common ingredient in virtually every pre-workout. It actually works indirectly by increasing levels of carnosine in the muscles. This buffers lactic acid buildup, reduces fatigue, and extends endurance. However, many supplement companies underdose it. The reason is that beta-alanine causes a temporary, harmless tingling effect that not everyone likes. Here, it’s dosed a 3g, so you will experience the harmless side effects. (2)

Taurine – 200 mg

Taurine is an amino sulfonic acid. It’s found in the muscles, heart, and brain. Taurine helps regulate minerals, supports the central nervous system, and acts as an osmolyte. That means it promotes muscle cell volume or water-based pumps, and hydration. (3, 4)

N-Acetyl L-Tyrosine – 750 mg

N-acetyl L-tyrosine is the acetylated version of the amino acid tyrosine. This version has superior absorption over standard l-tyrosine. It improves focus and cognitive function. (8)

Choline Bitartrate – 500 mg

Choline is another ingredient that supports focus and cognitive function by increasing acetylcholine levels in the brain. (9)

Alpha-Glyceryl Phosphoryl Choline (Alpha-GPC) 50% – 200 mg

Alpha-GPC absorbs better than regular choline. It also stimulates the release of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter that improves memory and learning. As you can see, 5% Nutrition 5150 includes two effective forms of this impressive ingredient. (10, 11)

Cocoa Alkaloid Extract (Theobroma cacao) – 80 mg

This exceptional compound stimulates thermogenesis to help burn fat. It will also increase energy and elevate mood. Plus, it evens out the effects of caffeine. That means there’s less chance of the jitters you may experience from an extreme dose of caffeine. (12)

Synephrine (50 mg)

This ingredient was the original replacement for ephedra. It has effects similar to ephedra but much milder. Effects include energy, focus, and thermogenesis. (13)

Toothed Clubmoss (Huperzia serrata) (standardized to 1% Huperzine A) – 50 mcg

Huperzine A increases focus and indirectly increases acetylcholine levels. It inhibits an enzyme called acetylcholinesterase, which controls the breakdown of acetylcholine. By inhibiting this enzyme, more acetylcholine becomes available. (14)

5% Nutrition 5150 Pre-Workout Stim-Crazy Caffeine Complex – 513 mg (Yields 400mg) – Caffeine Anhydrous, Dicaffeine Malate (Infinergy™), Theobromine, Caffeine (from Green Tea leaf), Guarana Seed Extract, Rauvolfia Canesens (Alpha-Yohimbine), Green Coffee Bean Extract, Gotu Kola Extract

5% Nutrition’s Stim-Crazy Caffeine Complex features multiple sources of slow and fast-acting caffeine. There’s extended energy with no jitters or crash. There is 513mg of total caffeine which yields 400mg of active caffeine.
