NutraBio Leg Day – Check It Out!
If you’re getting ready for a brutal workout session, you need to check out NutraBio Leg Day! No matter the bodypart, if the workout you’re about to start typically leaves you lying on the floor, you need an intra-workout that can help you power through it – and it has to be Leg Day! So if you’re ready to find out more, let’s get going!
What Is NutraBio Leg Day?
Leg Day is actually a special version of Intra Blast, NutraBio’s standard intra-workout formula. Leg Day takes Intra Blast to a higher level with the goal of improving your workout performance. It does this primarily by adding a “Dual Carbohydrate Energy Blend” and a “Leg Day Performance Matrix”. Not to mention, it’s stim-free, which means you can stack it with your favorite pre-workout for even better results.
What Does NutraBio Leg Day Do?
Piggybacking off the last section, NutraBio Leg Day is an innovative intra-workout that is designed for your toughest training sessions. It covers ATP energy, focus, motivation, strength, hydration and muscle growth. Wow! What a list! Who could ask for more?
Let’s Check Out The Ingredients
20 Servings per Container / Serving Size = 1 Scoop
Calories – 120
Total Carbohydrate – 32 g
Total Sugars – 5 g
Added Sugars (as D-Ribose) – 5 g
Dual Carbohydrate Energy Blend – 30 Grams
ClusterDextrin™ (highly branched cyclic dextrin) – 25 Grams
Leg Day starts off with a quick energy carb source designed to help power you through your workouts. This patented ingredient is a premium quality, high-molecular-weight carb supplement that originates from cornstarch. It provides fast (with no insulin spike) yet extended ATP energy, plus it was designed to pass through the stomach quickly to speed glycogen replenishment without causing any gastric problems. (1)
Bioenergy Ribose® (D-Ribose) – 5 Grams
This interesting compound is a patented, all-natural, five-carbon sugar that promotes regeneration of cellular energy in your muscles. Unlike other sugars, it does not increase your blood sugar. What it does do is help lower fatigue, ease muscle soreness, and support energy recovery. (2)
Leg Day Performance Matrix – 450 mg
Mucuna pruriens Extract [(seed) (std. to 98% naturally occurring L-DOPA)] – 150 mg
Mucuna pruriens (velvet bean) provides impressive workout benefits by increasing levels of the neurotransmitter dopamine. Its high L-Dopa content increases motivation – just what you need for those brutally tough workouts. It also increases mental alertness and energy, while at the same time lowering stress-induced burnout. Finally, it has potent antioxidant benefits which support overall in-the-gym performance and recovery. (3)
elevATP® [ancient peat and apple fruit extract (Malus domesticus)] – 150 mg
Here is a clinically studied patented ingredient that consists of ancient peat and apple skin extracts. elevATP stimulates your body’s internal production of ATP, which helps increase endurance, strength, and power. (4)
NeuroFactor® [coffee berry extract (Coffea arabica)(fruit)] – 100 mg
This is a patented, all-natural extract that comes from the Coffea arabica plant. It has been clinically studied and shown to increase levels of BDNF (or Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor). BDNF is a key neuroprotein that is critical for memory, learning, elevated focus, and overall cognitive function. It should be noted that while it is derived from coffee fruit, this ingredient does not contain any meaningful amount of caffeine. (5)
Senactiv® [Panax notoginseng (root), Rosa roxburghii (fruit)] – 50 mg
Senactiv® (formerly called ActiGin) is a patented, clinically studied plant-based ingredient consisting of Panax notoginseng and Rosa roxburghii. It is designed to enhance performance, improve recovery, and support the production of ATP. It works by acting as a “senolytic” (a class of drugs) to help “kill” senescent (“zombie”) cells. This in turn promotes the generation of new muscle cells as well as lowering inflammation. These benefits increase training time to exhaustion and help speed post-workout recovery. (6)
Intra Blast Aminos – EAAs – 7.6 Grams (including BCAAs – 5 Grams) – Total Grams = 8.6
L-Leucine (HPLC) – 2,500 mg
One of the BCAAs and, in anabolic terms, the most important of any amino acid. It plays a key role in stimulating protein synthesis, which is a direct trigger of muscle growth. (7, this reference is for all the EAAs)
What Does HPLC Mean?
I’m sure you noticed the “HPLC” designation after every amino acid listed here. What does that mean, you might ask? It signifies that the amino acids in Leg Day have been analyzed using High-Performance Liquid Chromatography. This ensures a purity of 98% or higher, and is in keeping with the NutraBio mission of quality. (8)
L-Isoleucine (HPLC) – 1,250 mg
This is one of the BCAA’s and has a key role in muscle metabolism. It is highly concentrated in muscle tissue. It should be noted that the BCAAs make up about 18% of the total amino acids in your muscles.
L-Valine (HPLC) – 1,250 mg
The final BCAA, valine, is involved in muscle growth, tissue regeneration, and energy production. All the EAAs support leucine’s role in the stimulation of protein synthesis, but valine can be used for energy production if needed by the body. This is mainly an anti-catabolic function – it’s preventing muscle tissue from being broken down and used for fuel.
L-Ornithine HCl (HPLC) – 1,000 mg
There was a time that Ornithine, along with Arginine, was thought to boost growth hormone production. So what is it? L-Ornithine HCl is a conditionally essential non-proteinogenic amino acid that is involved in the urea cycle. This helps the body eliminate excess nitrogen and detoxify ammonia. This benefit helps decrease fatigue and control stress. By the way, it is believed to support GH production. HCl is the hydrochloride salt form of L-Ornithine. (9)
L-Lysine HCl (HPLC) – 850 mg
This is another amino acid in hydrochloride salt form. It supports protein synthesis, the body’s absorption of calcium, and hormone/enzyme production.
L-Threonine (HPLC) – 850 mg
Here’s an amino acid that plays a part in the production of collagen and elastin. It also supports fat metabolism. Finally, it supports immune function.
L-Histidine HCl (HPLC) – 450 mg
This is yet another amino in HCI form, and is also involved in immune function, like L-Threonone. In addition, it promotes proper digestion, and helps regulate the body’s sleep-wake cycles.
DL-Phenylalanine (HPLC) – 300 mg
This amino is a precursor to neurotransmitters such as dopamine, epinephrine, and norepinephrine. Among other functions, these neurotransmitters support focus, mental alertness, and motivation.
DL-Methionine (HPLC) – 100 mg
This is an amino acid that is important for tissue growth (such as muscle tissue). It also supports metabolism, and aids in mineral absorption.
L-Tryptophan (HPLC) – 55 mg
This amino acid is a precursor to serotonin. This is an important neurotransmitter that regulates mood, sleep, and appetite.
Electrolyte & Hydration Optimizer (3.97 g)
Taurine (HPLC) – 2,000 mg
Taurine is an amino sulfonic acid that’s found in high concentrations in the muscles. It is perhaps best known for its cognitive benefits but should be equally known for its benefits as an osmolyte. That makes it important for hydration and its ability to promote muscle cell volume, or water-based pumps.
Calci-K™ (as Albion™ calcium potassium phosphate citrate) – 667 mg
Calci-K™ is a patented, highly bioavailable Albion® Minerals complex of Calcium, Potassium, and Phosphorus. It was formulated for superior absorption and effectively supports hydration, the ability of your muscles to contract, and bone health.
What Is The Connection Between Calci-K™ and Albion™?
Calci-K™ is a patented, highly bioavailable ingredient that was originally developed by Albion Human Nutrition (now part of a company called Balchem). It is an exclusive, soluble complex of calcium, potassium, and phosphorus that was designed with one goal in mind – superior absorption.
CocoPure™ (coconut water powder) – 500 mg
Coconut water powder has become one of the go-to hydration ingredients for many pre and intra workout supplements and as well as hydration supplements. CocoPure™ is the patented version of this compound.
Pink Himalayan Sea Salt – 393 mg
Sodium gets a bad rap but it is crucial for hydration, and you lose it when you sweat during your workouts. The last thing you want is to fall into a state of dehydration.
Sodium Phosphate – 157 mg
Piggybacking off the above ingredient, you may wonder why this is here. As noted, you lose sodium when you sweat, and as little as a 2% drop in hydration can lead to serious performance problems. Why take a chance? (10, 11)
Di-Magnesium Malate (Albion™) – 250 mg
Magnesium is the second most abundant mineral in the body (calcium is the first). Like the other electrolytes, magnesium is necessary for numerous functions in the body, such as muscle contractions, energy production and even protein synthesis.
Nutrient Absorption Enhancer
Astragin™ [Astragalus membranaceous (root), Panax notoginseng (root)] – 50 mg
When it comes down to it, no matter how good a supplement is, it means nothing if absorption is a problem. Astragin™ ensures that the nutrients in Leg Day are fully absorbed.
NutraBio and Label Transparency
In 2001, NutraBio introduced the concept of Full Label Transparency to their entire line of products. They were the first supplement brand to list every ingredient and dosage clearly on the label, and this includes the ‘Other Ingredients”. You will never see a prop blend in a NutraBio product.
The “Other Ingredients” section of Leg Day
As noted above, they list the amount of everything in this section: Flavoring: citric acid 1.600 mg, natural flavor 1517 mg, malic acid 800 mg, sucralose 220 mg, acesulfame potassium 120 mg. Coloring: Blue spirulina 38 mg.
How Do I Use It?
Mix one scoop of NutraBio Leg Day into 12-16 ounces of cold water and sip throughout your training session. Leg Day can be consumed before your workout as well as during, and it can be used post-workout to boost your amino acid intake.
