What Is Mutant Mass?

First of all, since Mutant Mass is a gainer, let’s define what that is. A weight gainer is a powdered supplement that supplies a high amount of calories, which primarily come from protein and carbohydrates. The best gainers sound contain a minimal amount of fat and sugar. That’s important because you should want to know where your calories are coming from. Early gainers were primarily protein with a ton of sugar added.

Now Let’s Look At Mutant Mass!

On the market since 2005, Mutant Mass is a high protein, high carbohydrate gainer that features carbs and fats from whole food sources. Plus, the protein blend is a combination of whey, casein, and milk proteins for fast and slow digestion.

Let’s Look At The Ingredients!

8 Servings per Container (5lb) – 24 Servings per Container (15lb) / Serving Size – 4 Scoops

Calories – 1100

Total Fat – 6 Grams  – There’s not a lot of fat here, but it comes from MCTs, avocado, flax, and pumpkin

Fiber – 6 Grams

Total Sugars – 18 Grams

Total Carbohydrates – 196 Grams

Mutant Mass contains more carbs than most gainers – where do the carbs come from? Let’s find out.

Maltodextrin

This is a fast-digesting carb from starch (such as corn starch) that provides immediate energy for in-the-gym performance and recovery. It can cause insulin spikes, which is why this is not the only carb source.

Pea Starch

This is a slow digesting, low glycemic carbohydrate. This counteracts the faster digesting maltodextrin.

Waxymaize

This common carb source is a high-molecular-weight starch that helps replenish muscle glycogen quickly, making it important for recovery.

Sweet Potato

A nutrient-dense, whole food, moderate glycemic source of complex carbohydrates.

With 196 grams of carbs per serving, Mutant Mass can help fuel high endurance workouts as well as normal training. So, for example, this is a good choice for someone trying to bulk up for football (or your chosen sport). It’s also a good choice for the person simply trying to build muscle.

Protein – 56 Grams

(Whey Protein Concentrate, Hydrolyzed Whey Protein, Whey Protein Isolate, Micellar Casein Protein, Milk Protein Concentrate, Milk Protein Isolate)

This is an exceptional protein blend that consists of 3 whey sources for fast digestion and 3 casein/milk sources for slower digestion. Let’s take a quick look at each of these sources.

Whey Concentrate

This is the most common whey protein. Whey concentrate has a little more lactose and fats than either isolate or hydrolyzed.

Hydrolyzed Whey

This is whey protein isolate that’s broken down into smaller particles than other types of whey which means it will absorb faster. All whey proteins are fast-digesting, but hydrolyzed is the fastest.

Whey Isolate

This is the highest quality whey protein. It’s widely considered to be the best quality protein powder available. It will contain at least 90% protein by weight with very little lactose and fat.

Micellar Casein

Micellar is the highest quality form of casein protein. The main advantage of micellar casein is that it is slow-digesting – it stays in the system for 7 hours.

Milk Protein Concentrate

This is a dairy-based protein made by ultrafiltering skim milk. It contains both casein and whey proteins in a 80:20 ratio with most of the lactose and fat filtered out.

Milk Protein Isolate

This is a highly concentrated dairy powder that contains at least 90% protein by weight. It is created by filtering fresh skim milk to remove most of the lactose and fat.

How Do I Use It?

As per the label: mix 4 scoops of Mutant Mass with 24 oz. of cold water or milk. Here’s how to optimize its use. Of course, the purpose of Mutant Mass is to gain lean muscular weight. That means you have to gradually increase your daily calories over time until you begin to gain weight.

It’s important to take a gradual approach.

The key is to find the number of daily calories you need to gain weight. For example, maybe you need 4500 calories a day but are only getting around 3500 between your diet and your single serving of Mutant Mass. You need to up your calories. Once you hit 4500, or whatever the number is for you, you will gain muscular weight.

You should begin with one serving per day for one week, mixed in water. Monitor your results. Again, if you don’t gain, increase your calories by going up to 2 shakes a day. Follow this process until you start to gain. Use in between meals and/or post workout. Be sure you are eating 3 solid whole food meals per day.

Finally, I strongly suggest monitoring your waist line – if you find you’re gaining fat weight, reduce your daily calories by 500. Continue to make adjustments until you are gaining mostly muscle.
