Purpose
This exercise is used to strengthen the lower back and prevent common injuries from occurring in everyday life.
Execution
Begin by placing a barbell on a rack that is slightly lower than shoulder height. Next, step under the bar and place the bar across your back, the same as if you were doing a squat. Now, push with your legs to lift the bar out of the rack and step back from the rack. Place your feet at approximately shoulder width and hold your core tight. Begin the exercise by bending at the waist and pushing your hips back. Continue this movement until your torso is parallel to the floor. Next, push the bar up and raise your torso back to the starting position. Repeat this movement until you have completed your set.
Tip
Keep your head up and keep your back straight. This will prevent injury and help you to maintain your balance.
Warning
Begin with light weight on this exercise and always practice good form. This exercise can cause injury if not done properly.
